Justifying Torture
Yesterday, US President Obama released internal CIA memoranda detailing torture methods used by the CIA during the Bush era. The memoranda have been posted on the US Department of Justice's website. And while Obama has decided to protect the CIA agents who engaged in torture, what is more interesting is that these memos have been released in the first place.
This marks an about face from Bush-era policies of secrecy in the war on terror. And, for me, it raises interesting questions about openness and democracy in what should be considered a war.
